My name is Will Pittenger. I have been making KMZ sets for Google Earth for a long time. After I starting making those, I wanted overlays for my sets. I was unsatisfied with the accuracy of the images available at Wikimedia Commons. So I started making my own with Inkscape and uploading them. Then I needed a place for anyone that liked my KMZ sets and/or maps to find others. For a while, a simple blog sufficed. But, once I started getting requests, I knew I needed something better. This site is the result. You are welcome to set up an account. Some activities are for registered users only. Take your time poking around and let me know what you think.
This track is expected to change for 2011. I included full information,
including overlays and length data, for both layouts. You can download it here.
From good old live footage. There's no sustitute for it. On http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfQ2jjn0w-s You can see the first lap of last years final race of the WTCC. Another thing that it shows is a curbstone which was layed down at "Chicane", the second esses after the easternmost hairpin, at 0.57. Maybe that is why the longer layout will be used in the future as then the more fragile cars wouldn't have to hit such a curb.
I used a region that I could see a wider portion of pavement. Where did you get your information? None of the maps I found even showed a pit lane or paddock area.
The pitlane starts a bit later and ends after turn 1 almost at turn 2. I didn't know the historic races would move to the extended layout. That layout was actualy intended to attract CART, DTM and such.
